Household Hazardous Waste Disposal
Household hazardous waste can’t go in your trash or recycling—but it still needs to be disposed of safely.
What Is Considered Household Hazardous Waste?
Hazardous waste includes any product labeled with words like toxic, flammable, corrosive, or reactive. These items require special handling and should never be placed in your curbside bin.
Common Household Hazardous Waste includes:

- Automotive fluids (motor oil, antifreeze)
- Household cleaners & disinfectants
- Batteries (alkaline, lithium, car)
- Fluorescent light bulbs & CFLs
- Garden chemicals, pesticides, and herbicides
Never Dispose of Hazardous Waste in Your Cart
Putting Household Hazardous Waste in the trash or recycling cart is dangerous to workers, the environment, and local landfills.
✘ Please do not place the following in your garbage or recycling:
- Paints, oils, gasoline
- Rechargeable or lithium batteries
- Pool chemicals or pesticides
- Cleaning fluids or aerosols
When in doubt, don’t toss it—contact us for guidance.
